I progressed through the grades within Education following various posts and training
3) When did you first take an interest in this area of work?
I have always been interested in this area of work.
4) What are your main responsibilities?
IT Strategy across Pupil and Parent Services; complaints officer for Education Directorate; oversee Freedom of Information/Subject access requests; E Government projects; manage secretaries and graduate trainees; monitor various budgets.
5) What do you enjoy most about your job?
Helping others
6) What do you dislike most about your job?
Not having enough time to complete work as quickly as I would like.
7) What attributes and/or skills do you need to do your job well?
Good communication skills and a sense of humour
8) What experience, qualifications or training do you need to do your job?
- Management and administration
- Local Government/business studies qualification
- Communication skills
- IT skills
- Dealing with challenging people and others
9) What is your typical day?
- Replying to numerous e-mails and phone calls.
- Project managing e-government work.
- Managing staff and any issues that come up.
- Dealing with complaints
- Dealing with strategic IT issues.
10) What is the work environment like?
Reasonably good – the staff are friendly and helpful
11) What are the benefits of doing the job you do?
Building up good working relationships with staff within the unit and other parts of directorate.
12) Do you work on your own or as part of a team?
I manage a team of staff but often work alone.
13) What would be the typical next move from your position? Is this your planned next move?
No immediate plans – I wish to stay in management and administration within Education.
14) What’s your ultimate goal and career aspiration?
To be happy in my working life and do the best I can.
