Assessing Needs, Planning and Arranging Services

Community Care Managers, Community Care Officers, Occupational Therapists and Occupational Therapy Assistants are based in locality teams across North Yorkshire. These are usually joint older people/physically disabled adult's teams but in Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale, services for the 2 user groups are managed separately.

Learning Disability Services are moving towards integration with Health Services and joint management arrangements and co-location of teams are becoming the norm.

Mental Health arrangements are integrated with Health Services in all areas. As well as the services provided by the integrated Community Mental Health Teams, Day Services, Drop in Centres and some accommodation and community support are also offered.

The Emergency Duty Team provides out of hours services to the County (and the City of York). There are both permanent staff and sessional workers employed and most are approved Social Workers for the purpose of the Mental Health Act.

Services are accessed via the Customer Relations Units who are the first point of contact for the public. They offer advice information and, if appropriate, referral onwards to specialist staff. Teams of Customer Relations Officers are based in Harrogate, Scarborough, Northallerton, Skipton, Selby and Ripon.

Providing Services

We are one of the largest providers of social care in the region. Our staff teams deliver care services to older people and vulnerable adults with physical and/or learning disabilities. We are committed to supporting the people who use our services to remain as independent as possible in all aspects of their lives.

A Career Profile of. . .

Read the Career Profile of a Assistant Finance & Admin Manager which covers a range of questions relating to the role.

Our Resource Workers are the people we depend on to provide quality care and support to our service users. Resource Workers can work in a range of settings including peoples own homes, within local communities, in residential homes, resource centres and day centres.

In every case the key task is to ensure the well being and development of service users in response to an assessment of their needs. So... a Resource Worker may support someone attending a local college, may help someone to learn new skills, support someone in finding paid/unpaid employment or provide support with aspects of daily living such as dressing, washing or eating.

There are also a number of important support roles in providing direct services - cooks and domestic support staff in residential homes for example.

Supporting Services

Strategy, Performance, Research and Development is handled by a team of specialists who advise support and facilitate work with and on behalf of management teams and local teams.

Contracting Services support the Directorate in buying a wide range of social care services from independent providers and ensure they meet all necessary standards and provide best value.

Support Services - administrative and specialist staff in various roles provide support and advice to the Directorate from County Hall and at units and team bases across North Yorkshire.
